The Clear Password remote action can be used from Hexnode for supported iOS/iPadOS devices when the device is able to communicate with the MDM server. You can trigger it from: Manage > Devices > select the iPad > Actions > Clear Password.
For multiple devices, select the devices from Manage > Devices, then use Actions > Clear Password.
However, this action requires the iPad to be online through Wi-Fi or cellular. If the iPad is already on the “iPad disabled” or “Connect to iTunes” screen after too many incorrect passcode attempts, Apple’s security behavior prevents normal device access and the device may stop communicating with MDM. In that state, Hexnode cannot deliver the Clear Password command to the device.
For this scenario, the recommended option is a manual recovery restore:
- Connect the iPad to a Mac or Windows computer.
- Open Finder on macOS or iTunes on Windows/older macOS versions.
- Put the iPad into Recovery Mode using the button combination for that iPad model.
- Choose Restore when prompted.
This will erase the iPad and reset it to factory settings. After the restore, the device can be set up again and re-enrolled into Hexnode.
