Exe app installation keeps getting timed outSolved

We’ve got a case where an Exe app installation consistently fails with the “Installation timed out. Re-initiate the action” error about 15 minutes after being deployed through the install application action. When the same app is installed manually on the device, it completes successfully within just 10-20 seconds.

The same behaviour is observed across all devices where the app was deployed. The installation status stays at pending or inprogress for a while before eventually failing with the timeout error.

Could this have anything to do with the installation settings I’ve configured? Here’s what I have set:

    • Install silently – enabled
    • Install app at system level – enabled
    • Force device restart after app installation – disabled
    • Add installation commands – disabled
    • Installation timeout (minutes) – 15min
    • Retry if the installation fails – disabled
    • Success criteria – App exists

Hey @stevenhere

I have run into this issue before, it happened when no silent parameter was specified under add installation commands in the installation settings. Without a proper silent argument, the installer waits for user input, which causes it to hang until it eventually times out.

Hmm, that’s interesting. But I’ve already enabled the ‘install silently’ option in the settings, so shouldn’t that take care of it?

Hello @stevenhere ,

Thank you for reaching out. As @carter mentioned, this often occurs when a silent parameter isn’t specified under Add Installation Commands.

The Install silently option works only for applications that support the default silent command (/s). Some apps, however, require custom parameters to install silently. Could you try adding the silent parameter specific to that app under Add Installation Commands? You can usually find it in their official deployment guides. Once added, try redeploying and see if it installs successfully.

Let me know if it doesn’t, and we’ll help you troubleshoot further.

Cheers,

Looks like that was the issue, it installed without any problem after adding the silent parameter.
