I’ve been manually using the “Change Owner” action in the Manage tab every time a device switches handsIt’s becoma bit of a headache. Can this process be automated in Hexnode, and does it work for something like new employee onboarding?

Hello,  @stevenhere , you can fully automate the Change Owner remote action via the Automate tab.

For Automated Onboarding, you can set the trigger to On Device Enrollment. The moment a device is enrolled under the default user, Hexnode automatically triggers the Change Owner action. This immediately pushes the policies associated with thspecified user.

@elle_reed , what if some employees get transferred from one location to another?  Can the owner be changed then?

Absolutely  @ryanmoore , the Location Compliance trigger in the automation can facilitate employee transitions; once they move with the device from one geofenced office location to another, the Change Owner action is automatically initiated to reflect the new site’s ownership and policies. Please note that an owner is not associated with a particular geofence. The trigger works simply on location compliance, and the Change Owner action will re-initiate when the device enters a geofenced location.

@elle_reed If the owner changes automatically, what happens to the sensitive data or apps from the previous person? Does the new owner see the old user’s location history?

No @liam_t , the data and apps stay secure.

  • Hexnode checks your Required Apps policy. If “Remove apps from the device on policy removal” option is enabled, the old user’s apps are uninstalled, and the new owner’s required apps are automatically queued for installation.

  • The system instantly re-evaluates all policies to match the new owner’s specific profile.

  • You can set the automation to Delete Old User’s Location History by checking the tick box during the action configuration, ensuring the new owner starts with a clean privacy slate and no access to previous tracking data.

@elle_reed so, to get this running, I just go to Automate > New Automation and select Change Owner as the action?

Exactly @stevenhere In the Automate tab, click on New Automation and select your platform. Pick the Change Owner action and define your Filters (like specific Device Groups) and Triggers. This automation thus turns a manual ticket into background system logic.
