Bulk renaming ~200 devices – is there an easier way?Solved

Hi everyone,

We recently enrolled around 200 devices into our Hexnode portal. Right now, they all show up with their default names, which isn’t very helpful when we try to identify them.

What we actually want is something simple like: DEVICE-1, DEVICE-2, DEVICE-3, so each one is easier to recognize. The problem is that when I looked at the device page, it seems like I have to edit them one by one, which honestly feels like it will take forever with 200 devices.

Is there some way in Hexnode to rename or modify these in bulk? I feel like I might be missing something obvious here.

Hi @zayn_nj,

You can do this using Hexnode’s Edit Device Attributes option.

Hexnode allows device attributes to be modified in bulk, which is useful when managing larger deployments like yours.

One option is to use Set Collective Name. From the Manage tab, select the required devices and apply a naming pattern to them at once. This is useful when you want to apply a common prefix such as DEVICE- across multiple devices.

If you need more control over the naming structure, you can use the CSV upload method. After uploading the file, Hexnode will match the devices and update the attribute for all applicable entries.

For more information, check out the help documentation on remotely modifying device attributes.

We also faced this after enrolling devices across multiple branch offices. The default names didn’t give us any indication of where the device belonged.

We exported the device list, added our location-based naming format, and used the bulk update option. That way the names matched our internal device register.

Doing it manually would have taken hours.
