Location tracking disabled for deviceSolved

An enrolled android device has Location Services enabled locally, but Hexnode says like Location tracking disabled for device under location history. Is there a separate setting in the console that needs to be enabled before the device starts reporting its location? Also, are there any device-side permissions required for this to work reliably?

Hello @isaiah ,

Yes. Enabling Location Services on the device is not enough by itself. Hexnode UEM requires a Location Tracking policy to be configured and assigned to the device before the portal can fetch and display location data.

To enable it from the Hexnode UEM console:

  1. Go to Policies.
  2. Create a new policy or edit an existing one.
  3. Navigate to Android > Tracking and Fencing > Location Tracking.
  4. Click Configure.
  5. Select Enable Location Tracking.
  6. Choose the required location update interval, such as 15 minutes or 1 hour.
  7. Go to Policy Targets.
  8. Add the affected device or device group.
  9. Save the policy.

After the policy is associated, check the following on the device:

  • The Hexnode UEM app should have location permission set to Always or Allow all the time, not only while using the app.
  • Location accuracy should be set to Precise or High accuracy where applicable.
  • On Android devices, battery optimization or power-saving restrictions should not be blocking the Hexnode UEM app in the background.
  • The device must have an active internet connection so it can report the location back to the console.

Once these are configured, run a Scan device location action from the portal. The location should update under Location History shortly after the device checks in.
