Samsung knox app stuck as pending or missing in required apps on android kiosk devicesSolved

I added samsung knox to an app group and assigned that group under required apps for our managed samsung tablets. most of the devices are in kiosk mode and check in regularly, but the app status stays as pending or missing. Running install missing apps manually does not seem to install it either.

The knox service plugin is also in the required apps list and appears to be installed on some devices. i mainly want the knox policy settings to work and also want remote control to work without users having to approve access every time. Do I need both SamsungKnox and knox service plugin in the required apps list?

Hi @remi,

For Samsung Knox policy management through Hexnode, the required application is the Knox Service Plugin. Samsung Knox itself is a firmware-based security framework built into supported Samsung devices, not a regular standalone application that can be deployed from the Play Store.

If an app entry named SamsungKnox has been added separately to your Required Apps list, Hexnode will continuously try to install a package that cannot be deployed. This leaves the app status stuck as Pending or Missing and may cause the device to appear non-compliant.

To resolve this issue, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the policy or app group assigned to your Samsung tablets.
  2. Keep the Knox Service Plugin in your Required Apps list.
  3. Remove the separate SamsungKnox entry.
  4. Save the policy and allow the devices to sync.

After the next policy sync, Hexnode will stop trying to install the non-deployable entry, and the Missing/Pending app status should clear.

Please let me know if the devices successfully report as compliant after making this adjustment.

That makes perfect sense. I had both entries in the required apps group because i assumed SamsungKnox was the main app and the plugin was just an add-on.

Thanks for the clarification and help!
