Hello,
Thanks for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.
For Android devices, the Hexnode Remote View app can be installed in a few different ways: via the Auto-Install option in your enrollment profile, deployed through a Required Apps policy, or manually by the end-user directly from the Hexnode for Work app on their device. Since your Auto-Install setting is configured to Do not install, the app appearing on newer devices is almost certainly the result of users manually initiating the install from the Hexnode for Work app interface.
Regarding the version discrepancy: the Google Play Store often displays the latest stable public release (version 6.0 in your case), whereas the enterprise APK available directly through Hexnode can be a newer build. The devices showing version 6.4 are utilizing this enterprise version of Hexnode Remote View.
To resolve this and deploy version 6.4 consistently across your entire fleet without managing two separate app entries, you can update your policy using the enterprise APK.
Here are the recommended steps to rectify the issue:
- Navigate to Apps > Add Apps > Enterprise App and upload the updated Hexnode Remote View APK (version 6.4).
- Open your existing Required Apps policy where the older Remote View app is configured.
- Remove the older app and replace it with your newly uploaded enterprise app.
- Save and associate the policy with your target Android devices.
By replacing the old entry, Hexnode will automatically deploy the 6.4 enterprise version to the devices that currently have the older app, keeping your deployed versions uniform.
Rest assured, you do not need to repeat this manual APK upload process every time there is an update. This method is mainly used as a workaround when you need to immediately enforce a specific enterprise version that is not yet public. Once the updated version is fully released on the Google Play Store, you can transition back to using the store app in your policy and allow it to update normally in the background via Managed Google Play.
I hope this helps. If you find any more issues or need further assistance feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
George,
