Hi, I’m upgrading a user’s managed iPad and want the old device to stop being managed. Is there a quick way to swap the device under the same user, or do I need to disenroll the old device and enroll the replacement from scratch?

Hi @harold,

If you only want to change the user assigned to an existing managed device, you do not need to disenroll and re-enroll the device. You can update the user association for that device using the Change Owner remote action.

However, if you are replacing the physical device and the old device should no longer be managed, the correct approach is:

  1. Disenroll the old device from Hexnode.
  2. Enroll the replacement device into Hexnode.
  3. Assign the new device to the required user.
  4. Ensure the required policies, apps, and configurations are associated with the new device or its user/device group.

There is no direct “swap device” action that transfers management from one physical device to another without enrolling the replacement device.

Thanks, I was hoping there was a shortcut, but since it’s a new iPad, I’ll disenroll the old one and enroll the replacement.
