Hi, I tried running the scan device location action on a Mac that’s currently in our warehouse. I was just testing it before deploying the device.

The action is showing as failed in the action history though the device is physically there. Any idea why this would happen?

Was the device logged in when you triggered it? I’ve seen location scans fail if the Mac is sitting at the login screen.

It was at the login screen when I tried it. Does that matter?

Hi @elliot,

As @harold mentioned, that is likely the reason.

The Scan Device Location action can fail if:

  • The device is locked or at the login screen. An active user session is required to establish communication.
  • The Hexnode UEM Helper app is disabled under System Settings > General > Login Items.

Please log into the device and try again. Also ensure the Hexnode UEM Helper app is enabled.

Update: Logged in and retried. It worked.

Thanks for the help.
