I created a custom technician role and enabled permissions to allow and add apps. The technician can access the Apps section, but when opening an app’s details page, the edit gear icon is not visible. They need to edit the app and update the APK.
From a Full Admin account, the edit option is visible and the APK can be updated normally. Is there another permission that needs to be enabled for a custom technician role?

This is expected behavior in Hexnode’s current role permission model.
Application editing privileges, including editing app details and updating APK files, are available only to the following built-in roles:
– Full Admin
– Apps & Reports Manager
Custom technician roles can be granted access to app-related actions such as viewing or adding apps, but they do not currently get full application edit privileges. This is why the edit gear icon is visible for a Full Admin but not for the custom technician role.
If the technician needs to update APKs, assign the user the Apps & Reports Manager role. This provides access to manage applications and reports without granting full administrator access.

Does the Apps & Reports Manager role also allow Remote View or Remote Control on devices? I’m trying to avoid giving device-control permissions just so the person can update apps.

The Apps & Reports Manager role does not grant Remote View or Remote Control permissions.
A technician assigned to Apps & Reports Manager can access the Apps and Reports areas for application management and reporting. It does not provide device management permissions such as remote view, remote control, or broader admin control over enrolled devices.
For a least-privilege setup where the technician only needs to update APKs, Apps & Reports Manager is the recommended option over Full Admin.
