Been seeing a log of inaccurate location. some shows a different country & there’s also, a location that keeps on changing even if there’s no changes on the user’s location / wifi at all. do we have fix for this?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to the Hexnode Connect community!

I’d be glad to help you get to the bottom of this. To give you the most accurate solution, could you provide a bit more detail about the problem? Something like:

  • Which platforms are you experiencing this on (e.g., Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, etc.)?
  • Under what circumstances are these logs appearing? (e.g., Is it happening on a specific network, during specific hours, or on particular device models?)

Sometimes, inaccurate location logs can show up due to a variety of standard factors, such as weak GPS signals indoors, aggressive battery optimization settings restricting location services, or the device falling back to less accurate cell tower triangulation.

However, the specific behavior you mentioned, locations showing in a completely different country and constantly jumping around even when the device and Wi-Fi are stationary, suggests the involvement of a VPN, proxy server, or custom DNS routing. When a VPN is active, the network traffic is routed through a different server, which can cause the location tracking to log the server’s location rather than the device’s actual physical location.

Could you clarify if any of the affected devices are utilizing a VPN or similar network configurations? Once we have a bit more context, our team can investigate this strongly for you.

Please do reach out if you have any more queries; we are always happy to help!

Best regards,
George
