iPhone stuck with missing apps after Required Apps policy syncSolved

One managed iPhone is not installing all apps assigned through its device policy. Some apps install correctly, but the device keeps showing 8 missing apps even after reapplying the policy and waiting for it to sync. The issue appears under Compliance Info. Has anyone seen Required Apps get stuck like this on iOS?

Hello @cameron,

This can happen if Apple system applications are added to the Required Apps policy.

Apple system apps are already part of iOS and cannot be silently installed through MDM like regular App Store or VPP apps. If system apps are included as required apps, the device may keep trying to install them and remain stuck in an app installation loop. In some cases, the device may also prompt for an Apple ID.

Check the apps listed under the Required Apps policy and remove any Apple system apps, especially apps with bundle IDs starting with “com.apple.”.

After removing them:

  1. Save the policy changes.
  2. Disassociate the policy from the affected iPhone.
  3. Reassociate the policy.
  4. Sync the device again.

Once the system apps are removed from Required Apps, the missing app count should clear for the apps that were incorrectly being targeted for installation.

Okayy I got it. I did notice a few native Apple apps in the required list. I’ll try applying the policy after removing those apps from the list.
