iPad in Single App Kiosk not connecting to policy Wi-FiSolved

I have an iPad locked in Single App Kiosk mode. A Wi-Fi configuration is already pushed through a Hexnode policy with the network credentials, but the device did not seem to save or connect to that network properly.

The iPad is online now and checking in with Hexnode, but the actions/policy statuses were showing as Pending for a while. Since it is in single app mode and the iPad does not have a Home button, I was also unsure how to reboot it or get to Wi-Fi settings without exiting kiosk.

What is the best way to reconnect Wi-Fi on an iPad in Single App Kiosk mode? Also, can Remote View work while the iPad is locked to a single app?

Hi @itsme_aoi,

For an iPad in Single App Kiosk mode, Wi-Fi troubleshooting can be a little restricted because the device is locked to the configured app. If the device is still checking in with Hexnode, first try confirming whether the Wi-Fi profile has applied successfully from the Action History. If the status remains Pending even though the device recently checked in, it can indicate that the device has not completed the network change or is still holding on to a previously saved Wi-Fi configuration. For this scenario, the practical fix is to remove or forget the existing saved Wi-Fi network on the iPad and then reconnect so that the policy-pushed network credentials can be used cleanly. If the device allows access to Control Center or network settings, switch networks from there. Otherwise,

  1. Temporarily exit or remove Single App Kiosk if network settings are blocked.
  2. Forget the existing Wi-Fi network on the iPad.
  3. Reconnect to the intended Wi-Fi network.
  4. Wait for the device to check in with Hexnode.
  5. Confirm the Wi-Fi policy or action status changes from Pending to Success.
  6. Reapply Single App Kiosk if it was removed. This is especially useful when the device is online but policy/network statuses appear stuck.

For rebooting an iPad without a Home button while in kiosk, use the standard hardware button sequence supported by the iPad model. If the device is locked down and a normal restart is not possible from the interface, a hard reboot using the physical buttons is still the available method.

What about Remote View in this setup? If the iPad is locked into Single App Kiosk, can Hexnode still start a Remote View session?

Hi @matteo,

Remote View will not work on iOS devices while they are locked in Single App Kiosk mode.

On iOS, Remote View requires the Hexnode UEM app to be running in the foreground so that screen broadcasting can be started from the Hexnode app. In Single App Kiosk mode, iOS keeps the device locked to the assigned kiosk app, so the Hexnode UEM app cannot come to the foreground and start the broadcast.

This is an iOS platform restriction rather than a Wi-Fi issue. To use Remote View, the device must not be locked in Single App Kiosk at the time the remote viewing session is initiated.
