Allow iPhone eSIM carrier activation in Hexnode multi-app kioskSolved

We’re moving a group of managed iPhones from one cellular carrier to another. The new carrier said they will push an eSIM/carrier profile to the phones, and users may need to accept a prompt in Settings > Cellular to complete the switch. These iPhones are managed with Hexnode policies and are in kiosk mode. I want to make sure our restrictions won’t block users from accepting the new cellular plan. Which iOS policy settings should be allowed for this?

For an iOS eSIM Carrier Activation flow, users usually receive an on-screen notification or see a prompt under Settings > Cellular to accept the new cellular plan. In Hexnode, make sure the policy applied to the iPhones does not restrict cellular or eSIM changes:

1. Go to Policies.

2. Open the policy associated with the iPhones.

3. Navigate to iOS > Restrictions or iOS > Advanced Restrictions.

4. Ensure the following options are allowed/not restricted:

  • Modify cellular plan settings
  • eSIM Modification

Once the updated policy is pushed to the devices, users should be able to open Settings > Cellular and complete the carrier switch when the activation prompt appears.

What if the devices are in kiosk mode? Ours show kiosk mode active, and the policy says multi-app kiosk. I’m mainly worried users won’t be able to reach Settings when the carrier prompt appears.

If the devices are in iOS multi-app kiosk mode, the Settings app is included by default in the kiosk policy. So users should still be able to access the required Settings > Cellular screen and accept the new cellular plan prompt. The important part is to make sure the iOS restriction settings mentioned above allow cellular plan modification and eSIM modification. If those are allowed and the policy has reached the devices, Hexnode should not block the eSIM activation flow.
