iOS VPP app updates not installing silently in HexnodeSolved

Some of our iOS apps deployed through Hexnode were no longer updating silently. The apps were already present on the devices, but new app versions were not being pushed without user action. We checked the app deployment and VPP setup but could not immediately figure out why the silent updates had stopped. What should be verified for VPP app updates to work silently through Hexnode?

Hello @_ashur ,

For silent updates of VPP apps through Hexnode, verify the following:

  1. The app must be added to Hexnode UEM as a VPP app.
  2. The VPP/Apps and Books licenses must be active and available.
  3. The VPP token should be valid and synced with Hexnode UEM.
  4. The app should be deployed to the devices through policy as a Required App.

If the VPP licenses have expired or are unavailable, Hexnode UEM cannot complete managed app update deployment silently because the app assignment is no longer valid. After renewing the VPP licenses, sync the VPP app list in Hexnode, add any missing apps back to the VPP app list, and deploy them as Required Apps. Once this is done, app updates should install silently where managed app updates are supported by iOS.

Simon Scott
