iOS kiosk mode policy stuck In Progress on iPhoneSolved

I’m trying to enable kiosk mode on a few iPhones through a Hexnode policy, but the policy stays stuck at “In Progress” and kiosk mode never starts on the devices.

I tried removing and adding the kiosk policy again, and also saved the policy once more without making changes, but the devices still don’t enter kiosk mode. The issue is happening on multiple iPhones. What could block kiosk mode from activating on iOS?

Hey @matteo,

For iOS devices, kiosk mode requires the device to be supervised. If the iPhone is not supervised, iOS will block the kiosk restriction from being applied, even if the policy is associated from Hexnode.

You can confirm this from the device details in Hexnode:

  1. Go to Manage.
  2. Open the affected iPhone.
  3. Go to Device Summary.
  4. Check Hardware Info.
  5. Verify the Supervision status.

If Supervision is Off, kiosk mode cannot be enabled on that device.

To use kiosk mode on iPhones, supervise the devices using one of these methods:

After supervision, the device must be wiped and re-enrolled for the supervised status to apply. Once the device is supervised and enrolled back into Hexnode, associate the kiosk policy again.

That explains it. I checked the device details and Supervision is showing as Off. I was assuming the policy would still apply since the device was enrolled, but looks like that is not enough for iOS kiosk mode.

Yep, ran into the same thing before. Regular iOS enrollment lets you manage the device, but kiosk/single app mode needs supervision. We had to add the iPhones to Apple Business, assign them to the MDM server, wipe them, and enroll again. After that the kiosk policy applied normally.
