We’re reviewing our compliance requirements and need some clarity on how Hexnode handles customer data backups. Specifically, does Hexnode back up portal data, how often are backups taken, how long are they retained, and are the backups immutable?

Hi @benjay,
Hexnode performs a full backup once daily, and backups are created with versioning.
For an active Hexnode portal, backups are retained as long as the portal remains active. When a subscription ends or a trial is not renewed, the active server data is purged as part of the portal cleanup process. An automatic backend backup is retained for 28 days after the active data purge to support GDPR Right to Erasure requirements. After this 28-day retention window, the data is permanently deleted.
Hexnode does not provide immutable backups for client data as part of the standard backup process.

So just to confirm, the daily backups are versioned but not immutable, right? We’re mainly checking this because our audit questionnaire separates versioning from immutable backup storage.

Yes, backup versioning and immutable backups are different controls.
Hexnode backups are versioned, meaning backup versions are maintained as part of the backup process. However, Hexnode does not currently offer immutable backups for client data. If your audit specifically requires immutable backup storage, it should be recorded as not available in Hexnode’s standard backup setup.
