Green stripe on Android kiosk tablets when website opens in Browser LiteSolved

A batch of our Android tablets in kiosk mode suddenly started showing a green stripe at the top of the website. It makes scrolling on the page difficult. We did not make any recent policy changes.

The policy is configured to launch the website using Hexnode Kiosk Browser, but when I checked the device app list, I could only see Hexnode for Work installed. I do not see Hexnode Kiosk Browser on the tablets. What causes this green bar, and how do we remove it?

Hi @r_foster ,

The green stripe usually appears when the website is being opened in Hexnode Browser Lite instead of Hexnode Kiosk Browser.

In this case, the policy is configured to use Hexnode Kiosk Browser, but the app is not installed on the devices. When the configured browser is unavailable, the website may fall back to Hexnode Browser Lite, which can cause the green bar and related display or scrolling issues.

To fix this:

  1. Install Hexnode Kiosk Browser on the affected tablets.
    • Use Install Application remote actions for an immediate push, or
    • Add Hexnode Kiosk Browser under Policies > Required Apps for ongoing deployment.
  2. If the devices are already in kiosk mode, add Google Play Store to the Background Apps section of the kiosk policy. This allows app installation to complete while the device remains in kiosk.

After Hexnode Kiosk Browser is installed successfully, the website should launch in the correct browser and the green stripe should no longer appear.

That explains it. I checked a few tablets and they only have Hexnode for Work installed. I assumed selecting Hexnode Kiosk Browser in the web app settings would install it automatically.

Selecting Hexnode Kiosk Browser as the browser for a web app only defines which browser should be used to open the site. It does not install the browser app by itself.

For Android kiosk setups, the browser should be deployed separately as a required app or pushed through an action. Also, keeping Google Play Store as a background app is important if the app needs to install or update while kiosk mode is active.
