Duplicate grey Web Clip icons appearing in iOS multi-app kiosk modeSolved

I’m testing iOS tablets in multi-app kiosk mode and ran into a strange Web Clip issue. When I add one Web Clip to the kiosk policy, the device shows the correct Web Clip plus several duplicate greyed-out icons for apps/Web Clips that I did not select. Each time I remove and re-add the tablet to the policy, the grey icons seem to build up.

The device also has a Home Screen Layout configured, and it is assigned to multiple policies. A non-kiosk iPhone with the same Web Clips works fine, so this seems specific to the kiosk setup. Has anyone seen Web Clip icons getting cached like this in iOS kiosk mode?

Hi @richard_hank,

This behavior can occur when an iOS device has overlapping policy configurations that affect the Home Screen layout, Web Clips, and kiosk allowed apps.

For iOS multi-app kiosk mode, check the following:

  1. Review all policies associated with the device.
  2. Confirm whether more than one policy is configuring the Home Screen Layout.
  3. Remove duplicate or conflicting Home Screen Layout configurations if possible.
  4. Make sure the Web Clip is included in the multi-app kiosk allowed apps list.
  5. Restart the device after removing or changing kiosk/Home Screen policies, as cached grey icons may remain until the device refreshes the Home Screen.

A good test is to temporarily remove the kiosk configuration, deploy only the Web Clip, confirm that it appears correctly, then add the same Web Clip back into the multi-app kiosk configuration.

Thanks, cleaning up the policy conflict and restarting the iPad cleared the cached icons.
