Disable 2FA prompts for actions while keeping login 2FA in HexnodeSolved

I want to keep two-factor authentication enabled for logging in to the Hexnode portal, but I do not want to be asked for 2FA for every action inside the portal. I also want to use a third-party authenticator app like Google Authenticator. I checked my Profile page, but I could not find a way to change this. Is there a setting for this if I am using the Super Admin account?

Hi @tom_wilson ,

You can control this from the technician profile settings rather than the individual Profile page.

If you are using the default Super Admin profile, update its 2FA configuration by following these steps:

  1. Go to Admin > Technicians and Roles > Profiles.
  2. Search for and open the Super Admin profile.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Under Two-Factor Authentication, enable the following options:
    • Enable Hexnode-managed 2FA
    • Ask this user to set up Third Party Authenticator
    • Skip 2FA for actions
    • Save the changes.

This keeps 2FA enabled for portal login and allows the user to set up a third-party authenticator app. The “Skip 2FA for actions” option prevents repeated 2FA prompts for regular portal actions.

Just to confirm, does “Skip 2FA for actions” completely remove all action-based 2FA prompts?

Not completely @hugo_l . It skips 2FA prompts for regular actions in the portal, but high-security actions can still require 2FA as an added protection layer. So the expected behavior is: 2FA remains required for login, most routine action prompts are skipped, and sensitive actions may still trigger verification.
