Hey everyone! I’m managing a fleet of tablets for a delivery service, and I’ve noticed the battery and storage info on my dashboard is often days old unless I manually click “Scan Device” for each one. Is there a better way to keep this data fresh without me having to manually initiate scan all day?

@sebastin , you can automate the Scan Device action in Hexnode UEM. Follow the below steps to set up this automation:
-
Navigate to the Automate tab in your Hexnode portal and click on New Automation.
-
Choose New Automation > Your desired device platform (Android/iOS) and select Scan Device action under Scans.
-
Select the Schedule for triggering the automation and configure target device group filters.
-
Review the automation and click Save.
This automation ensures the portal fetches the latest hardware details, like battery level and storage capacity automatically at set intervals. This keeps your inventory data accurate without manual intervention.
That sounds useful. My issue is a bit different, though. We have strict compliance rules, and most users do not understand the extent and install apps they shouldn’t. Is there any way to keep a check on what all apps are installed?
@sophia_miller , For your scenario, you should leverage the Scan for Apps action, which can be automated to maintain a “real-time” application inventory. By scheduling this scan, Hexnode UEM fetches an updated list of all installed software directly from the device at regular intervals.
This allows you to:
-
Detect Blacklisted Apps: Instantly identify if a user has installed prohibited software that violates your security policy.
-
Monitor Managed App Status: Confirm if mandatory enterprise apps were successfully installed or if they have been removed.
-
Automate Compliance Triggers: Once the scan identifies an unauthorized app, the device status can automatically flip to non-compliant, allowing you to trigger automated email alerts or restrict corporate resources until the app is removed.
@elle_reed , what about lost devices? We had a laptop go missing yesterday, and the “Last Seen” location was from three days ago because no one had scanned it recently. Can we automate scans to prevent this from happening again?
@vance_j , absolutely. When a Scan Device Location automation is scheduled, the device is forced to check in and report its Last Seen location periodically. This ensures that if a device goes missing, you have the most recent location data available immediately. Please do note that a Location Tracking policy needs to be associated with the target devices for this automation to work.
@elle_reed , thanks for the breakdown! It sounds like automating the scan is basically essential for keeping everything from inventory to security on track. I’ll go set one now!
