Can Hexnode block AI notetakers on Windows and macOS devices?Solved

Hi everyone. Is there a way to block users from using AI notetakers on company-managed MacBooks and Windows laptops? We were hoping to block AI notetaker tools in general, including web-based ones and installed apps, rather than having to maintain a list manually. Will Web Content Filtering automatically catch these desktop apps, or does it only apply to web-based notetakers?

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.

Currently, Hexnode cannot universally block an entire broad category such as “AI notetakers” at the device level. You will need to maintain a list of known notetaker domains and app identifiers, and then restrict them individually depending on how users access them.

1. Web-Based AI Notetakers (Web Content Filtering)

Web Content Filtering is strictly intended for blocking access to specific web portals or URLs. It does not automatically detect or block installed AI notetaker desktop applications.

For Windows devices:

  1. Navigate to Policies > Windows > Security > Web Content Filtering.
  2. Select Blocklist.
  3. Choose the browsers you want to target (such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox).
  4. Add the exact AI notetaker URLs or domains to the blocklist, separated by commas or semicolons.

For macOS devices:

  1. Navigate to Policies > macOS > Web Content Filtering > Blocklist/Allowlist.
  2. Under the Filter Type, configure Blocklist Web URLs.
  3. Add the exact URLs of the AI notetaker services.

(Note: On macOS, this will restrict access in Safari and native web traffic, displaying an organization block screen when the blocked site is accessed).

2. Installed AI Notetaker Apps (App Blocklisting)

For desktop applications, the practical approach is to identify the specific app and add it to an app blocklist using your OS-specific App Management policies (Policies > [Windows/macOS] > App Management > Blocklist/Allowlist).

Additionally, if the app is deployed directly through Hexnode and supports managed configurations, you may also be able to push custom app configurations to restrict certain features.

I hope this helps. If you find any more issues or need further assistance, feel free to reach out.
