iPhone in ADE asks for Apple ID after factory reset during Hexnode enrollmentSolved

An iPhone 15 is listed under Automated Device Enrollment, but it is not enrolled or manageable in Hexnode yet. The device was signed out of its Apple ID/iCloud account, and we were hoping to either recover the Apple ID details or enroll the phone so policies can be applied.

A few questions:
– Can Hexnode show the Apple ID or iCloud account used on the iPhone?
– If the device is in Apple Business Manager / ADE, do we need a QR code to enroll it?
– Will factory resetting the device erase all existing data?
– After enrollment, will the old data or Apple ID come back?

For an iPhone listed under Automated Device Enrollment, the device must complete enrollment before it can be managed from Hexnode.

A few important points:

1. Hexnode cannot view or recover personal Apple ID or iCloud credentials. Apple does not allow MDM solutions to display the Apple ID password, full iCloud account details, or personal iCloud data.

2. If the device is only listed under ADE but has not completed setup through Remote Management, it is not yet enrolled and cannot be controlled from Hexnode.

3. To enroll an already set-up ADE device, it must be erased first:

– On the iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.

– After the erase, proceed through the iOS Setup Assistant.

– Connect the device to Wi-Fi.

– The device should contact Apple servers and display the Remote Management screen.

– Tap Continue/Next to complete enrollment.

4. No QR code is required for Automated Device Enrollment. QR-based enrollment is used for other enrollment workflows, not ADE.

5. Factory reset permanently erases local data, apps, and account information currently on the iPhone. Hexnode enrollment will not restore the old data or reveal the previous Apple ID. Once enrollment completes, assigned policies can be applied to the device as a fresh managed setup.
