macOS device rename action starts in Hexnode but device name does not changeSolved

I’m managing corporate-owned macOS devices in Hexnode and I’m having trouble renaming them. The name change fails during automated enrollment, and if I go to the device page and use Actions > Edit > Rename Device, the activity feed shows that the Rename Device action was initiated, but the Mac keeps the old name.

Is there another way to update the device name for MDM-managed macOS devices?

Hey @melora,

For macOS devices, if the standard Rename Device action is initiated but the name does not update on the device, you can rename the Mac remotely using a custom script instead.

Use Hexnode’s macOS device rename script from the script documentation or script repository and deploy it to the target device. The script updates the device name directly on the Mac, ensuring the new name is applied at the device end.

This is useful when the rename action does not reflect after Automated Device Enrollment or when the activity feed shows the action as initiated but the visible device name remains unchanged.
