Hexnode Remote Assist crash loop on macOS when starting session from FirefoxSolved

Hi everyone. I’m currently testing the Hexnode Remote Assist feature for unattended access on a Mac running macOS Sequoia 15.7.7. The Mac is properly added to the policy, and I initiated a session from the Hexnode portal with the “Initiate session without user interaction” option enabled.

The Mac prompted for Screen Recording permissions, which I allowed. However, right after allowing it, the Hexnode Remote Assist app crashed. Now, it falls into a continuous crash loop whenever I try to reconnect or restart the app.

I’ve already verified that all required Remote Assist permissions are granted, restarted the Mac, and even tried starting a standard remote session without the unattended option, but the crash still persists. Has anyone encountered this, and how can I break this loop?

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.

Based on your description, this behavior matches a known issue we have encountered with older builds of the Hexnode Remote Assist app where sessions initiated specifically from the Mozilla Firefox browser fail during the connection signaling process, causing the macOS Remote Assist application to crash repeatedly.

As an immediate, temporary workaround, you can initiate your Remote Assist sessions using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, which should connect normally without triggering the crash.

To permanently resolve this issue, you need to update the Hexnode Remote Assist application on the Mac, as this bug was addressed in version 9.0.2.

  1. Ensure the Hexnode Remote Assist app on the target Mac is updated to version 9.0.2 or later.
  2. In your Hexnode portal, navigate to Manage > Devices.
  3. Select the affected Mac to open its Device Summary.
  4. Go to Enrollment Details.
  5. Click the Sync icon to force the device to check in and fetch the latest configuration and app updates.

Once the application is updated and the device has synced, you should be able to start Remote Assist sessions from Firefox without encountering the crash loop.

I hope this helps. If you find any more issues or need further assistance feel free to reach out.

Best regards,
George,
