Android single app kiosk exit prompt does not appear before app launchesSolved

I have an Android 7.1 device in single app kiosk mode. The kiosk policy has the exit kiosk option enabled, but I cannot get the exit code prompt to appear.

I tried restarting the device and tapping the screen 10 times before the kiosk app opens, but the app launches almost immediately. Once the app is open, the taps do nothing.

This is a problem because one of the devices is offline and I need to manually connect it to Wi-Fi. Since it is stuck in kiosk mode, I cannot access the Wi-Fi settings, and I also cannot disable kiosk remotely because the device has no internet connection.

Is there any way to manually disable kiosk mode on an offline Android device when the app launches too quickly?

For Android single app kiosk, the manual kiosk exit prompt appears only if the tap sequence is performed on the Android home screen after the device has finished starting up and before the kiosk app launches.

The correct timing is important:

1. Restart the device.

2. Wait until Android has finished booting and the home screen is briefly available.

3. Tap the screen 10–12 times before the kiosk app launches.

4. Enter the kiosk exit password when prompted.

Tapping while the device is still on the boot screen, such as when it shows Android starting, will not trigger the kiosk exit prompt. Tapping after the kiosk app has already launched will also not work.

If the device is online, the better option is to send the Disable Kiosk Mode remote action from the Hexnode portal. However, if the device is offline and the app launches too quickly to access the home screen, Hexnode cannot receive a remote command to disable kiosk.
