Hi, I tried to force a password change on a macOS device from the portal using the change password feature but there is a prompt for an admin username and password.

If the device has multiple admin accounts, which admin username and password should be used?

Hi @liam_t,

You must provide the credentials of a secure token–enabled local administrator account on the device.

Hi, currently our device has only one admin account, and the password for that account is unknown.

Is there any way to force-reset the user’s password without knowing the admin password?

Hi @josiah,

Unfortunately, no. Changing the password of a local user account using the Change Password action requires an administrator password. If only one admin account exists on the device and its password is not known, the password cannot be changed.

If we add a new admin account to the device using Hexnode, will that allow us to reset user passwords later?

Hi @josiah,

Yes, provided the newly added administrator account is secure token–enabled. It is recommended to maintain at least two secure token–enabled admin accounts on macOS devices to avoid lockout scenarios.
