Hi everyone,

We’re currently scaling our design team, and I’m hitting a bit of a wall. We have about 50 new MacBook Pros shipping out to remote hires across the country this quarter. My main “problematic scenario” is that I need these devices to be fully encrypted (FileVault) and pre-loaded with the Adobe Creative Suite before the user even logs in, without the devices ever touching my office.

I’m also worried about “shadow IT”—users creating their own local admin accounts and bypassing our security scripts. What is the most seamless way to handle this via Hexnode? Is there a way to lock these down so they are enterprise-ready right out of the box?

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.

To solve your “remote-first” problem, you’ll want to look into Apple Business Manager (ABM) integration for Automated Device Enrollment. This allows for a “Zero-Touch” experience:

  • DEP Profiles: You can pre-configure the Setup Assistant to skip those tedious registration screens and, more importantly, prevent the user from removing the MDM profile.
  • Account Security: You can mandate the creation of a standard user account while Hexnode handles the admin-level permissions in the background.
  • Silent App Deployment: You can push your Adobe packages and FileVault policies instantly once the device hits Wi-Fi.

For a deep dive into the technicalities—specifically how to set up the APNs certificates and configure those policy payloads; I highly recommend going through our comprehensive guide:

Official Guide: macOS Device Management with Hexnode

This documentation will walk you through everything from the initial enrollment hurdles to advanced configuration profiles. It’s the best way to get a solid orientation on the workflow before you start pushing policies to those new Macs.

If you run into any specific errors while setting up your DEP profile or VPP tokens, please don’t hesitate to reach out right here. We’re happy to help!

Best regards,
