Hi, we’re trying to set up Android tablets in Hexnode Kiosk Mode for our team. The requirement is that users should be able to open and view PDF files directly from the kiosk. Could someone guide us on how to enable PDF viewing in this setup?

Oh yeah, I had that headache too. Just tossed Adobe Acrobat into the whitelist and it worked fine. Didn’t bother with fancy configs, just wanted the PDFs to open.

Sure, but if you don’t add file shortcuts, folks will be wandering around the kiosk like it’s a maze. You gotta drop those PDF links right on the home screen, otherwise it’s like giving them a locked toolbox with no key.

Thank you for reaching out. To enable PDF viewing on Android tablets in Hexnode Kiosk Mode, please follow these steps:

  • Navigate to Policies > Kiosk Lockdown > Android Kiosk Lockdown > Multi-App.

  • Configure the Multi-App Kiosk lockdownPlease note that if an app other than Hexnode Document Reader is chosen to open the files, the app must be granted storage access permission on the device. It is to be added as a background app .

  • If the PDF files are not locally stored, you must first add them to the Hexnode repository through the Content tab in the portal. Once uploaded, you can attach them to the Multi-App Kiosk lockdown policy.

  • Finally, deploy the policy to the devices.

This ensures that users can securely access and view PDF files within the kiosk environment.

Yothat’s neat. Basically: lock it down, whitelist the reader, shove the files in, slap shortcuts on top. Done deal.

Ha! Back in my day, we had to sideload apps one by one. Now it’s civilized.. just push content, tick boxes, and Hexnode does the heavy lifting. Progress, I say.
