Hey folks,

One of our users keeps reporting that their iPad refuses to install iOS updates even though Hexnode shows that an update is available. The device just sits there doing nothing.

Wi-Fi is fine; the command was sent but still has no progress.
Has anyone bumped into this before?

Hey @gnishilda ,

A few things can block iOS updates even when Hexnode pushes them.
First one to check: Is the iPad supervised?
Automatic or remote-triggered updates only work on supervised devices that unmanaged ones behave like stubborn teenagers.

Also, if it’s older than iOS 10.3, it actually needs to be DEP-enrolled before remote updates work.

Adding on, iPads are surprisingly picky about updates. Some easy things to miss:

  1. If the update is over 100 MB, the device must be on Wi-Fi.
  2. Battery needs to be 50% or higher, or plugged in.
  3. If the command was Download and Install, Hexnode will install updates only after they’ve finished downloading.
  4. And the classic culprit: storage space. iPads don’t hold back one missing GB, and the update silently refuses to start.

It might be worth checking those basics!

Thank you both! Turns out the iPad wasn’t plugged in and was sitting at around 28% battery. I didn’t even think about that.
I’ll sort that out and re-push the update fingers crossed this time it behaves.
