We are excited to announce that Hexnode UEM now officially supports Apple’s Return to Service feature for devices running iOS 17+, iPadOS 17+, and visionOS 26.0+.
Originally introduced by Apple at WWDC23, this feature completely redefines the device wipe process. It eliminates the manual effort historically required to get a wiped device connected, set up, and brought back under management for the next user.
What is Return to Service?
Instead of the wiped device resetting to the factory “Hello” screen and waiting for manual configuration, Return to Service automates the entire recovery phase. The device powers back on, skips the setup assistant screens, and immediately preps itself for deployment.
How to Use Return to Service?
We’ve integrated this seamlessly into your existing management workflows. Here is how to set it up:
- Step 1: Configure Network Settings
- Navigate to Enroll > Platform Specific > iOS > Return to Service in your Hexnode portal.
- Here, you can pre-configure the Wi-Fi network and Proxy settings the device will need to connect to the internet after it has been wiped.
- Step 2: Execute the Wipe Action
- When you are resetting the device using the Wipe Device remote action from Hexnode UEM, make sure to enable the “Re-enroll device to UEM automatically” option.
The Result
By checking that box, the device will erase its data, reboot, automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network you configured in Step 1, and re-enroll into Hexnode UEM. Key configurations like language and region are already in place, making the device ready to hand off to the next employee almost instantly.
Cheers,
