Update App versions on multiple devices without resaving a policySolved

I have several policies with required apps, and a few of those apps have newer versions available. Normally I resave the policy to push the latest app version, but when I try to modify and save the policy, I get this error: “License check failed (App Permissions).”

Is there another way to force app updates to devices without waiting for the automatic policy refresh? I have 200+ devices and multiple apps to update, so running an app install action one device at a time is not practical. Is there a way to push the updates in bulk or by device group instead of selecting every device manually?

Hi @stevenhere,

You do not need to resave the policy just to push the latest version of an app! You can force the update by using the Install Application remote action in bulk. If the app is already installed on the device, this action will simply push the latest available version instead of installing a duplicate.

Since you are managing a large fleet, doing this by Device Group is definitely the most efficient method. Here is how:

  1. Go to Manage > Device Groups.
  2. Open or select the relevant device group.
  3. Click Actions > Applications > Install Application.
  4. Select the app you want to update and deploy it.

This will push the update command to all devices within that group simultaneously. If you have multiple apps to update, just repeat this action for each specific app.

Note: You can also do this from the Manage > Devices tab by checking the boxes next to multiple devices and using the same Actions menu.

Please let me know if you run into any issues pushing those updates!
