Samsung tablets can access dock and Settings from Android kiosk modeSolved

We have a few Samsung tablets running Android kiosk mode with only two shortcuts visible. One of our admins found that opening a shortcut, swiping up from the bottom, and dragging the window out of full-screen mode makes the dock and other apps visible. From there, Settings can be opened, which basically breaks the kiosk lockdown.

We also added the Wi-Fi network names in the Hexnode portal, but some tablets still are not connecting or checking in. What should be changed so users cannot get to the dock or Settings from kiosk mode?

Hello @josiah ,

For Android kiosk deployments on Samsung tablets, enable Lock Task Mode in the kiosk policy. This prevents users from leaving the locked task environment through gestures such as swipe-up, recent apps, or window resizing.

Open your existing kiosk policy and navigate to Kiosk Lockdown Android Kiosk Lockdown> Peripheral Settings > Lock Task Mode .

Enable Lock Task Mode, save the policy, and make sure the policy is associated with the affected devices or device group.

Also ensure that Settings is not added as an allowed kiosk app unless users specifically need access to it. Once Lock Task Mode is applied successfully, users should no longer be able to expose the dock and open other apps from kiosk mode.

We enabled Lock Task Mode, but a few tablets still behave the old way. They are also the ones that do not seem to be connecting to Wi-Fi or checking in. Does the policy apply even if the tablet is offline?

The policy change will not take effect until the device checks in with Hexnode UEM. If a tablet is offline, it will continue using the last policy state that was already present on the device.

For the tablets that are not checking in, connect them to a working network first. After the device comes online and checks in, Hexnode can push the updated kiosk policy. Once the updated policy is received, Lock Task Mode should block access to the dock.
