Reset Mac local user password and rotate admin passwords with LAPS in HexnodeSolved

I’m managing a few Macs in Hexnode UEM and need to reset the password for a local user account on one device. I’m also looking for a way to automatically rotate the local admin password on Macs instead of changing it manually every time. What’s the right place in the portal to do this, and does Hexnode store the rotated admin password anywhere?

Hi @zariah,

You can reset a local macOS user password directly from the device details page in Hexnode.

For a manual password reset:

  1. On your Hexnode UEM console, go to Manage > Devices.
  2. Select the required Mac, and open the Local Accounts tab.
  3. Select the local user account.
  4. Click Actions > Change Password.
  5. Enter the new password and confirm the action.

For automatic local admin password rotation, use the macOS LAPS policy. LAPS, or Local Administrator Password Solution, lets you rotate the password of a managed local admin account at a configured interval. The updated password is securely stored in the Hexnode portal so authorized technicians can retrieve it when needed.
