Removing an unfamiliar Android Enterprise organization from HexnodeSolved

Hi team. I am in the process of properly configuring Android Enterprise for our Hexnode portal. When I went into the settings, I noticed that an Android Enterprise organization is already connected. I have no idea what this org is, who set it up, or what account is tied to it.

We already have a fleet of Android devices enrolled and actively used by our field techs. I want to know if our current devices are actively utilizing this connected organization. If I go ahead and disenroll this existing Android Enterprise organization, is there a risk that it could break device management, wipe their apps, or completely disconnect my Android fleet?

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.

You can easily verify whether the connected Android Enterprise organization is actively being used by checking the Enterprise Management Type of your enrolled Android devices within your portal.

To check this:

  1. Navigate to Manage > Devices.
  2. Click on the column chooser icon and enable the Enterprise Management Type column.
  3. Sort or filter your device list using this newly added column.

You will want to check if any active devices are listed with one of the following management types:

  • Android Enterprise (Device Owner)
  • Android Enterprise (Profile Owner)
  • Work Profile on Company-Owned Device (WP-C)

If any devices show up under those specific types, they are actively relying on that connected Android Enterprise organization, and disenrolling it could break their management. However, if the devices display as Generic Android, they are completely independent of that Android Enterprise configuration.

I hope this helps. If you find any more issues or need further assistance feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Thanks for the clear steps, George! I added that column and checked our entire device list. Every single Android device we have shows up as Generic Android under the Enterprise Management Type.

However, I did notice that under the Ownership column, they are all marked as Corporate. Does that corporate ownership status mean they are somehow still tied to that old Android Enterprise organization in the background? I just want to be absolutely sure before I click disenroll.

Hello,

No, the Corporate ownership status by itself does not mean the devices are tied to Android Enterprise. It is simply an internal label indicating that the device belongs to your organization, rather than being a personal (BYOD) device.

Because your devices show Generic Android as their Enterprise Management Type, it means Hexnode is managing them using legacy Android Device Administrator capabilities. They are completely independent of Google’s Android Enterprise framework.

Since none of your active devices are utilizing Android Enterprise Device Owner, Profile Owner, or Work Profile modes, disenrolling that unfamiliar organization will strictly remove the unused binding from your portal so you can connect your new one cleanly. It will not wipe device apps, remove profiles, or disconnect your existing Generic Android fleet.

I hope this helps. If you find any more issues or need further assistance feel free to reach out.
