Old Android enterprise app version will not uninstall after updating Required Apps policySolved

I updated an Android enterprise app version in a Required Apps policy, but the old version stayed on the devices. Trying to uninstall it manually and through Hexnode failed. What finally removed the old app was removing the policy from the device and then applying it again. After that, the older version was gone.

For future updates, what is the correct way to update an Android enterprise APK in Hexnode so the old version does not get stuck?

Hello @mo-chou ,

For Android enterprise app updates in Hexnode, you can use either of the following supported approaches:

1. Update the existing APK in your inventory

  1. Navigate to the Apps tab.

  2. Filter the list by Enterprise app and the Android platform.

  3. Click on the application you want to update to open its App details window.

  4. Click the gear icon in the top right corner and select Edit.

  5. Click Change next to the APK/XAPK File field, upload your new APK, and click Save.

  6. Reassociate the Required Apps policy on the target devices.

2. Add the newer APK as a new app entry

  1. Go to the Apps tab, click + Add Apps, and select Enterprise App.

  2. Choose the Android platform icon at the top of the window.

  3. Enter the app details, click Choose File to upload the newer APK, and click Add.

After uploading, you can deploy it using your Required Apps policy or an Install Application remote action.

If the old version is already stuck and uninstall commands are failing, removing the policy association and applying it again can refresh the app state on the device. Once the older app is removed, deploy the updated version using one of the methods above.
