We previously used Hexnode to manage our Mac devices, but we no longer have access to the old admin portal. We need to release the Macs from management. What is the correct way to remove the MDM profile from macOS in this case?

Hey @_ashur,

For macOS devices, the removal method depends on how the Mac was enrolled in Hexnode.

If the Mac was enrolled through Apple Business using Automated Device Enrollment (ADE), unassign the device from the Hexnode MDM server in Apple Business first. After it is unassigned, the device can be safely erased or reset without being re-enrolled back into Hexnode during setup.

If the Mac was enrolled manually using an enrollment URL or profile installation, the MDM profile can usually be removed directly from the Mac:

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Go to General.
  3. Open VPN & Device Management, or Profiles on some macOS versions.
  4. Select the Hexnode MDM profile.
  5. Choose Unenroll or Remove Management Profile.
