Hey, I came across this document on bulk hardware staging in Hexnode: https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/bulk-hardware-staging-ultimate-guide/
What exactly is this? Is it just bulk enrollment or something more? I’m a bit confused about what “staging” actually means here.

Hi @skylar-a,

Bulk hardware staging is basically about preparing devices before they reach the end user. Instead of setting things up manually after handing over the device, everything is pre-configured in advance.

That includes things like auto-enrolling devices into the UEM, assigning them to groups, applying policies (Wi-Fi, restrictions, etc.), and installing required apps. So, when the device is powered on for the first time, it automatically pulls all configurations and is ready to use right away. The idea is to reduce manual effort and make large-scale deployments consistent and faster.

Ohh okay, so it’s kind of like zero-touch setup right? Like you ship a laptop to someone, and when they turn it on, everything is already configured without IT doing anything?

Hi @skylar-a,

Yeah, that’s a good way to think about it. Zero-touch enrollment is a big part of staging. The difference is that staging is more of a complete workflow, not just enrollment. It covers the full setup pipeline such as device enrollment, policies applied in phases, and required apps and updates being deployed. In larger environments, teams even roll this out in stages (like pilot → production) to avoid breaking things across the entire fleet.

Feel free to drop any more queries.
