Block a specific Store apps on macOS using Hexnode blocklistSolved

Yes @maatthew. The local app list only displays applications that are already detected on enrolled devices. If the app is not installed on any managed device, it will not appear there automatically.

To block a specific Store app that is not currently installed:

1. Go to Apps.
2. Select + Add Apps.
3. Choose Store Apps.
4. Search for the required app and add it to the Hexnode app repository.
5. Go to Policies > macOS > App Management > Blocklist/Allowlist.
6. Open the Blocklist section and select Add App.
7. Choose the app you added to the repository.
8. Save the policy and associate it with the required devices, users, or groups.

Once the policy is applied, the selected app will be blocked from being installed or launched on the targeted macOS devices, while other applications remain unaffected.

Hi @isabel_lora, just to confirm, this approach is for blocking selected apps only, right? It doesn’t force a full allowlist setup where every other app gets blocked?

Yes, adding a specific app under the macOS blocklist blocks only that selected application for the policy targets. It does not block all other applications unless you configure an allowlist-only restriction separately.

For this use case, adding the Store app to the app repository and then selecting it in the blocklist is the appropriate method.
