Back, Home, and Recent buttons missing in ADP Time on Samsung Knox kiosk devicesSolved

On Samsung Knox devices, navigation bar restrictions configured through Hexnode apply at the device level, not to only one specific app.

A few things are worth checking first:

1. In the Kiosk policy, go to Kiosk Lockdown > Peripheral Settings > Display and check whether Disable system bars is enabled.
2. Check whether Lock task mode is enabled for the kiosk policy. Lock Task Mode can affect the availability of system navigation controls.
3. If the navigation bar is visible in other apps but disappears only in ADP Time, the behavior is likely coming from the app itself rather than from a Hexnode restriction.

The message about app content being hidden from screen sharing is also app-controlled in many cases. Apps that use Android secure window protections can block their content from appearing during screen sharing, casting, recording, or remote viewing. That message does not necessarily mean Hexnode is hiding the navigation bar.

Some Android apps use immersive full-screen mode, which hides the navigation bar until the user performs a gesture such as swiping up from the bottom edge of the screen. This can make it look like the Back, Home, or Recent buttons have disappeared, even though they are only temporarily hidden by the app.

I unchecked Lock Task Mode and the buttons still do not show in ADP Time. The other app in the same kiosk setup still behaves normally, so it looked like something changed in the Hexnode policy. I also cannot remove the policy from production tablets just to test because they need network access and are in active use.

If the issue remains after disabling Lock task mode and other apps still show the navigation bar, that points away from a device-wide Hexnode navigation restriction.

For comparison:

• Hexnode navigation bar restrictions affect the whole device.
• Kiosk Mode works like an allowlist by permitting only the apps added to the kiosk policy.
• A web app or browser shortcut may handle navigation differently from a native Android app.
• A native app can force immersive mode on its own, hiding the Android system bars until a gesture reveals them.

That completely fixed it! It turns out this was just the app’s full-screen behavior all along. In ADP Time, swiping up from the bottom of the screen brings the navigation controls back, including the Back button. We had been using it that way earlier and forgot about the gesture.

So the fix was not a policy change. The Back button is available after swiping up inside ADP Time.
