Are MacBook Ultra rumors true?Solved

Hey everyone; so I’ve been saving up for a major laptop upgrade because my current Intel-based MacBook Pro is basically acting like a space heater at this point; it’s literally thermal throttling just opening up a few Chrome tabs. I was about to pull the trigger on a new M5 Pro, but then I stumbled upon all these crazy rumors about a completely new MacBook Ultra tier allegedly dropping or getting teased around WWDC 2026.

The leaks are wild. They’re saying it’s ditching the mini-LED for a super thin tandem OLED display, which would be amazing for my color-grading work. But the wildest part? Some supply chain rumors are hinting at a touchscreen and replacing the notch with a Dynamic Island. Honestly, a touchscreen Mac sounds like a fever dream after Apple spent years telling us it’s a bad idea, but my current laptop’s screen is dying anyway, so I’m holding out hope. Has anyone else tracked this? Are we actually getting a radical redesign or should I just buy what’s available now? Obviously, these are just early rumors so we can’t believe them completely; I don’t want to hype myself up for nothing.

I feel your pain on the Intel space heater; I upgraded from one last year and the difference is night and day, so definitely don’t suffer too long. Regarding the MacBook Ultra, I’ve been digging into the same supply chain reports, and from my experience watching Apple’s release cycles, there is usually some fire where there’s smoke; but we need a massive reality check here. Apple loves to test prototypes years in advance, so while a tandem OLED screen and a thinner chassis are highly likely down the road, expecting a touchscreen macOS device next month feels like a stretch.

If it does exist, the other rumors point to it running on next-gen M6 architecture, meaning it might even feature built-in 5G cellular connectivity so you don’t have to constantly hotspot from your phone. But here is the catch; rumor has it that global component shortages might push the release way back into early 2027. Plus, looking at Apple’s pricing strategy for “Ultra” tier products like the Watch, this thing is easily going to clear $3,500 at launch. It’s fun to speculate, but definitely take it all with a grain of salt. If your current machine is genuinely hindering your work right now, I’d say just grab an M5 model; it’ll still feel like a spaceship compared to what you have, and you won’t be chasing a mythical, expensive phantom laptop for the next year.
