I’m managing Android 7.1 devices in Hexnode and wanted to check a few things. Can Hexnode show the public IP address of a device? Also, I found Network Info under Device Info, but it seems to show only local network details. Trying to understand what Hexnode can capture directly and what needs another tool.

Hi @v_collins , Hexnode UEM displays the device’s local network IP address, not the public IP address.

For Android devices, the available network details can be checked from:

Manage > Devices > select the device > Device Info > Network Info

Depending on the device connection, this may show details such as the Wi-Fi IP address or Ethernet IP address. These are local/private IP addresses assigned within the network. Hexnode UEM does not natively capture or display the public IP address used by the device to access the internet.

For public IP tracking, you would typically need a network-level tool, firewall, router logs, VPN gateway logs, or another service that can observe the device’s outbound traffic.

That makes sense. I was looking at Device Summary first and didn’t see it there, but I found Network Info under Device Info. It shows the local IP, not the public one.

What about editing files? I have a JSON file already inside the Android device and wanted to edit it remotely from Hexnode.

Direct remote editing of a file stored on an Android device is not natively supported through Hexnode UEM. Hexnode UEM does not provide a live remote file editor for Android devices.

If your requirement is to update a file, the practical approach is to deploy or replace the file using supported file/content deployment workflows, if that fits your use case. However, opening an existing JSON file on the device, modifying its contents remotely, and saving it back directly from the Hexnode portal is not supported.

Got it. One more related question: if the device is sending a serial number through OCPP, can Hexnode capture or display that anywhere?

Hexnode does not capture or display serial numbers transmitted through OCPP traffic.

OCPP, or Open Charge Point Protocol, is handled by an OCPP Central Management System or charging network platform. Hexnode functions as a UEM/MDM platform, so it manages device enrollment, policies, apps, actions, and inventory data, but it does not intercept, inspect, or parse OCPP payloads.

To view serial numbers or other values sent through OCPP, you would need to check the OCPP management system, backend application, gateway, or network inspection tool that receives or monitors that traffic.
