Android location tracking and Wi-Fi policy setup in HexnodeSolved

For Android location tracking, make sure the location tracking configuration is enabled in the Hexnode policy and that the device has checked in after the policy was associated.

Also verify the Location permission for the Hexnode for Work app on the device. It should be set to Allow all the time. If the permission is denied or allowed only while using the app, location history may not update as expected.

Once the device checks in successfully and sends updated location data, the location history will be visible from the device details page in the Hexnode portal.

For Wi-Fi configuration, the device must first be online so that it can receive the Wi-Fi policy. This usually means it needs an initial internet connection, such as a manually connected Wi-Fi network or another available network connection. After the Wi-Fi policy is deployed and received by the device, it can automatically connect to the configured SSID whenever that network is in range.

So if a device is completely offline and has never joined any Wi-Fi, Hexnode cannot push the Wi-Fi profile to it yet, right?

Correct. The Wi-Fi policy is delivered through device check-in, so the Android device needs connectivity first. After it receives the policy with the configured SSID and password, future connections to that network should happen automatically when the device is nearby.

For deployments across multiple locations, collect the SSID and password for each site, add the required Wi-Fi configurations in the policy, and deploy the policy to the relevant devices or device groups.
