Android Enterprise enrollment profile limit: unable to create or switch profilesSolved

I’m testing Android Enterprise enrollment in Hexnode and ran into a profile limit. I currently have the default Android Enterprise enrollment profile and one custom Device Owner profile. When I try to create another enrollment profile, the portal says I need to upgrade.

I also noticed that under Enroll > Platform Specific > Android Enterprise, the selected enrollment profile is greyed out, so I can’t switch it to another one. Is the number of Android Enterprise enrollment profiles limited by the license plan, or is this a trial limitation?

Hey @haanaa, welcome to Hexnode Connect!

Android Enterprise enrollment profile availability depends on the license plan. Multiple Android Enterprise enrollment profiles are available from the Ultimate plan and above. If the portal is on a plan that supports only one enrollment profile, the option to create additional profiles may show an upgrade prompt, and profile selection may be restricted.

You can confirm the current plan from Admin > License. If the portal was previously on a higher plan and later changed to a plan with a lower profile limit, this would explain why additional Android Enterprise enrollment profiles can no longer be created.

That makes sense. The portal was initially on Ultimate and then changed to Enterprise, so that explains the upgrade prompt. I’m hoping you could clear a few more things that I’m unsure of. I’ll just jot them down below:

  1. With Enterprise, is only one Android Enterprise enrollment profile available?
  2. Do Device Owner and Profile Owner enrollments need separate enrollment profiles?
  3. What about Work Profile on Company-Owned Device?
  4. If I edit the enrollment profile later, will it affect Android devices that are already enrolled?

With the Enterprise plan, only a single Android Enterprise enrollment profile is available. However, you do not need separate enrollment profiles for each Android Enterprise management mode.

A single enrollment profile can be reused for:

  • Device Owner
  • Profile Owner / BYOD Work Profile
  • Work Profile on Company-Owned Device

You can edit the enrollment profile before starting a new enrollment, depending on the management mode you want to use for the next set of devices.

Changing the enrollment profile does not affect devices that are already enrolled. The enrollment profile is mainly used during the initial enrollment flow. Existing devices continue to remain enrolled with their current management state and applied policies.
