Hi @jayceon,
This error usually appears when an Android 13 or later device is enrolled using basic/generic Android enrollment instead of Android Enterprise enrollment.
For Android 13+, Google restricts factory reset/wipe capabilities for devices managed through the older generic Device Admin method. In that state, Hexnode cannot trigger a full device wipe remotely, and the supported alternative is to use the Lock Device action or manually factory reset the device from the device settings.
To confirm the enrollment type, check the device summary in Hexnode. If the device shows generic/basic enrollment and does not show Android Enterprise management, remote wipe will not be supported on Android 13+.
For future deployments where remote wipe is required, enroll the device through Android Enterprise, preferably as Device Owner / Work Managed. This generally requires factory resetting the device first and enrolling during the initial setup flow using one of the supported Android Enterprise enrollment methods, such as:
– Scanning the Android Enterprise enrollment QR code after tapping the welcome screen 6 times.
– Entering afw#hexnodemdm in the Google account email field during initial setup and following the prompts.
Once the device is enrolled as Android Enterprise Device Owner / Work Managed, remote wipe should be supported on Android 13 and later devices.
Regards,
Sienna Carter
