Samsung Keyboard settings closes in Android kiosk modeSolved

A Samsung device is running in Android kiosk mode through Hexnode. When a user opens Settings > Samsung Keyboard, the screen closes immediately and they cannot change keyboard options such as predictive text or spell check.

The device is actively locked in kiosk mode, so I suspect something needed by the keyboard settings is being blocked. What is the right way to allow Samsung Keyboard settings without exiting kiosk?

Hello @nevaeh ,

This usually happens when one or more packages required by Samsung Keyboard are blocked while the device is in kiosk mode.

Try the following:

  1. Reproduce the issue on the device.
  2. From the Hexnode UEM portal, run a Scan Device action.
  3. Go to Manage > Endpoints > [select the device] > Applications.
  4. Check the Blocked Packages section.
  5. If you see Samsung Keyboard, spell check, predictive text, or related keyboard packages listed as blocked, copy the package or bundle ID.
  6. Go to Apps > +Add Apps > With Bundle ID and add the package.
  7. Open the kiosk policy applied to the device.
  8. Navigate to Kiosk Lockdown > Android Kiosk Lockdown > Background Apps.
  9. Add the keyboard-related package from Local Apps and save the policy.
  10. Confirm that the updated policy is associated with the device, then test Samsung Keyboard settings again.

Adding the package as a background app allows it to run while the device remains in kiosk mode. This is different from adding it as a visible kiosk app; background apps can support system/app functionality without appearing as apps the user can freely open.
