I manage a group of enrolled Android tablets that are running in kiosk mode across different locations. Some of them need the latest version of Google Chrome.

Is there a way to force update Chrome on multiple devices from Hexnode?

Yes @jaxon_r . You can push the latest available version of Google Chrome to multiple Android devices from the Hexnode UEM console.

Use the following steps:

  1. Go to Manage > Devices.
  2. Select the Android devices that need the Chrome update.
  3. Click Actions > Application > Install Application.
  4. Search for Google Chrome and click Install.
  5. After initiating the installation, select the devices again and run Actions > Scanning & Monitoring > Scan Device.

The scan helps the devices check in with Hexnode UEM and process the app installation/update command. If a newer version of Chrome is available for the devices, it will be installed as an update.

Does this also work if the tablets are locked in kiosk mode? These devices are already deployed remotely, so asking users at each location to exit kiosk using a password would be difficult.

If the tablets are enrolled using Android Enterprise Device Owner Mode, the Chrome update can be pushed without requiring users to manually exit kiosk mode.

As a general best practice, kiosk mode can be disabled before updating apps and enabled again after the update. However, for Android Enterprise Device Owner devices, app updates can be applied in the background while kiosk is active.

If you still prefer to disable kiosk temporarily, you can do it remotely from the Hexnode console and enable it again from the same location after the update is completed. This does not require the end user to enter the kiosk exit password on the device.
