Reset passcode on an offline iPad that has not synced with HexnodeSolved

An iPad in our environment has not synced with Hexnode for around 3 months, and the user no longer has the passcode. Is there any way to reset or clear the iPad passcode remotely without wiping the device? The device currently appears offline in the portal, so I’m not sure if the Clear Passcode action will still work.

Hello @boris ,

For an iPad passcode reset through MDM, the device must be able to communicate with Hexnode. If the iPad is offline, the Clear Passcode command cannot be delivered immediately.

A useful workaround is to try bringing the iPad online through a Mac:

  1. Connect the iPad to a Mac using a cable.
  2. On the Mac, go to System Settings > General > Sharing > Internet Sharing.
  3. Enable Internet Sharing so the iPad can access the Mac’s internet connection.
  4. Check whether the iPad changes to an active or recently synced state in Hexnode UEM.
  5. Once it appears online, run the Clear Passcode action from the Actions menu.

If the device successfully syncs, the passcode can usually be cleared without wiping the iPad. If it cannot be brought online, the remote command will remain pending and a wipe/recovery may be the only available option.
