Best way to manage seasonal iOS devices in HexnodeSolved

We have a group of iPhones used only by seasonal staff during part of the year. They remain enrolled in Hexnode, but they are not actively used in the off-season.

Is there a recommended best practice for temporarily deactivating or marking these iOS devices without fully disenrolling and re-enrolling them later? I was considering just adding something to the device name, but I’m wondering if there’s a cleaner way to track them.

Hi @grace_t,

For seasonal iOS devices, it is usually better to keep the devices enrolled and mark them for identification rather than disenrolling them or using a restrictive action unnecessarily.

A practical approach is:

  1. Add a value such as Seasonal, Off-season, or a similar internal label in the device’s Device Notes field.
  2. Create a Dynamic Group using Device Notes as the condition.
  3. Use that Dynamic Group to quickly identify and manage all off-season devices.

This keeps the devices organized in Hexnode without disrupting enrollment. When the devices are needed again, you can update or remove the note so they no longer match the off-season group criteria.

We do something similar. Device Notes + Dynamic Groups has been easier than renaming devices because it lets us keep the actual naming convention intact while still grouping devices by status.
