Yes, this exact workflow is supported using Hexnode’s launcher settings. You can set your information app as the Auto-launch App in the kiosk policy so it opens automatically upon startup. Pressing the Home button will bring users to the Hexnode Multi-App Launcher, and configuring the auto-launch delay acts as an idle timer to return to the display app when the launcher is left unattended.

To answer your concern regarding video playback: the idle timer will not interrupt active usage. The auto-launch delay timer strictly tracks idle time while the user is sitting on the Hexnode Launcher screen. If a user opens YouTube or another allowed app, the device is actively in use, so Hexnode will not forcibly exit the app or disrupt playback.

That’s a relief! We have a related follow-up issue: one of our projectors was moved to a new site, and its Wi-Fi needs to be updated. Because it has been offline for days, remote portal commands won’t reach it.

Our kiosk exit settings are configured locally (10 taps required, exit passcode set, and 20-second app relaunch delay). However, since Android TV doesn’t have a touchscreen, how do we perform the “10 taps” using a remote control to exit kiosk mode locally and fix the network settings?

Since your kiosk exit settings were applied before going offline, the security parameters are cached locally on the device, meaning you can complete the exit process offline.

For Android TV devices lacking a touchscreen, use the remote control’s Select / OK button as the tap input:

1. Power cycle or reboot the projector.
2. Once the Hexnode Launcher appears, use the directional pad to focus on an empty area of the screen (away from any app icons).
3. Press the Select / OK button 10 times quickly.
4. Enter your kiosk exit passcode when the prompt appears.

Important Note: Because your policy has a 20-second relaunch delay, you must complete the 10-click sequence and enter the passcode before the launcher automatically re-opens the auto-launch app. Make sure your focus remains on a blank area—clicking OK while an app icon is highlighted will launch the app and reset your tap sequence.

Once you exit kiosk mode, open native Android TV Settings, connect to the local Wi-Fi, and the device will automatically check back in with Hexnode and re-apply your kiosk policies.
